"La Cage Aux Folles" and "The Woman in White"

Cheap La Cage Tickets: Just buy the last-row tickets at the Box Office, they're $25.
Cheap Woman in White tickets: Buy the £16 Balcony tickets where you get very little legroom.

I never saw the original Broadway production of "La Cage Aux Folles", but I do know that opinion was divided on the homosexual content. You know, some people uncomfortable with gay main characters, and some who where comfortable but thought that the show hadn't gone far enough, were too toned down.
Some changes have been made to the script this time, but they seem pretty minor. Most specifically, the final moment is a kiss in the sunset instead of holding hands. I'm surprised they didnt't make more changes for today's more comfortable audiences. But that's not the bottom line. The bottom line is that if you don't like the way 42nd Street stops the plot for songs that don't move it, then you may not like La Cage much either. Anyway, thanks goes to Amy for helping me with the abridge elements.

So I took a trip last week to London, and Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Woman in White seemed so ripe for ridicule that I just had to write another London aBridge for this one. Apparently for this one, Andrew Lloyd Webber sat down and said, "I'm going to write my Most Complex Score to Date", because that's what they keep advertising. Woman in White is your typical British Megamusical. It's generally solid, but nothing amazing. And the silly projections screens you keep hearing about... yeah, they really are as silly as you'd imagine. Especially when the effect wears off at 8:07 PM.

Upcoming Abridges: While I was in London I also saw Jerry Springer: The Opera, my next Broadway Show to Abridge is Roundabout's Pacific Overtures, and then I'll probably go another month and a half without updating again before I review Harvey Fierstein's Tevye in Fiddler. And somewhere in between that, I hope to finish a special episode of Les Miserables. Very special.
